WENGER SOLDAT 1959 SOLDIER STANDARD Swiss Army Knife SAK Model 1951 Wengerinox

Offered for sale is a WENGER SOLDAT aka SOLDIER aka STANDARD Swiss Army Knife (SAK). Manufacture Date: 1959 (as per "59" on blade tang). There is a stamp on the top scale in the shape a Swiss cross within a circle with the letters "W - K" etched in the cross. This is the Waffenkontrolle (Swiss military) control mark or stamp (indicating acceptance of the knife). Single hollow pin with reinforcing rosette.

Soldat is the name used to refer to the Wenger Soldier Knife. Having been the official issue to the Swiss Army since 1891 (Wenger first produced the Soldier Knife in 1903). For a decade from 1951 through 1961 the 93mm fiber handled design was the official issue for the Swiss army. Prior to 1951, the 1891 original Soldier's Knife was issued to troops. In 1961 Victorinox introduced a new design, with Alox (aluminum) scales in 93mm size and the 1951 design was officially retired, with Wenger producing the last models of the 1951 design in 1961.

Is the only Swiss Army Knife that has the year of production stamped on the tang of the main blade. Large blade is just under 3 of stainless steel in a clip point profile.

Tang is stamped Wengerinox with crossbow logo on one side and "59" on the other side. The Wengerinox stamp was apparently used by Wenger from 1951 through 1964.

Large Screw Driver (flat head; thicker than later models)- Wire Scraper (sometimes called a "cutting notch"). The knife is complete, used and in overall excellent condition. Edges look to be factory original.

The tools are all in excellent working condition with minor to moderate wear including spots, blemishes and scratches. Tools show signs of use; scractches to main blade.

The scales have minor to moderate pocket/use wear with scuffs, scratches and scrapes. The control mark area and W-K etching is clear and visible. Owned by an adult collector in a smoke free home.
