All Knives are cleaned, reviewed, and graded based on the combination of a few criteria. All observed flaws will be posted in the item "Condition" section. Functionality - This is the most significant criteria when grading these knives.
Any knives that have damaged or overused implements, but still function, will carry a much lower value than those lightly used. This includes but is not limited to bent or broken blades, twists in the screwdriver tip tools, loose implements, excessive sharpening, implement alterations, stuck implements, and a complete lack of snap. On the other hand, knives that have been only lightly used showing minimal to no wear on implements and still maintaining proper opening lock, will be valued much higher.
Appearance - Many used knives have been carried around for years and have accumulated a few rub marks, minor scratches, etc. These knives will not be penalized much for this type of cosmetic wear. However, some knives may show significant abuse to the exterior to include warping, cracks, chips, breaks, gouges, dents, heat damage, etc. These types of cosmetic deficiencies will carry some weight when assessing a knife's grade.
The appearance of implements, aside from major damage, falls into this category as well. A set of implements with a lot of shine and minimal to no sharpening will hold a higher value than those showing discoloration and heavy sharpening. Photos are almost always your best description for the appearance of the knife you will receive! Age - Knives produced decades ago are bound to show some sort of age. Fading colors, tarnish, discoloration, and things of this nature are normal and usually do not affect functionality.
Collectible and rare knives will not be significantly downgraded for these cosmetic signs of age. However, any other issues under the categories of functionality and appearance will weigh the same for vintage knives as they do modern knives.
