Victorinox Champion Long File Swiss Army knife- Hoffritz w bale 1960s #5826
MODEL DESCRIPTION: The Victorinox Champion Long File Swiss Army Knife is a long retired model in the 91mm (3 1/2) series. It was the top-of-the-line model, up until the magnifier was introduced circa 1973.

This model was produced in two different flavors (with corkscrew and with Phillips screwdriver), apparently under the same model name. AGE: This knife has a single-cut wood saw, with teeth pointing towards the base.

That version was replaced with a double-cut saw in 1970, so this knife is fairly certainly from the 1960s. The other tool configurations also date from that era. We welcome corrections from any serious collectors!

BLADE TANG: Like all Victorinox knives of its era, the rear tang is marked Victoria Officier Suisse, with a crossbow icon. The front is marked Hoffritz Switzerland Stainless instead of the usual Victorinox.

Hoffritz was a large US cutlery store chain from the early 1930s to the early 1990s. When this knife was made, Hoffritz had enough marketing clout to get their name stamped on the blade tang (a few other sellers were extended the same privilege). As their dominance subsided, the Hoffritz name later moved to the scales (first as a metal inlay, then printed). MODEL NAMING NOTE: We have also seen this tool configuration called a Craftsman , a name which was also used later for the same knife without the long file. In the 1960s and 190s, the Craftsman name was used for the 84mm Fieldmaster/ Artisan , and it currently is used for a knife that replaces the fish scaler with pliers. The Champion name has also been used for other, slightly different 6- and 7-layer models.

This knife weighs in at 143.5 grams (5.1 oz), and it's about 24mm thick (1). Champion Long File knives are standard sized Swiss Army knives (3 1/2 / 91mm). They contain the following tools. Bottle Opener with Screwdriver Tip.

Can Opener with Screwdriver Tip. Phillips Screwdriver (this one has a file on one side). This link has more about our used knife grades.
