MODEL DESCRIPTION: The Victorinox Scientist Swiss Army Knife is one of three retired models that include a magnifier, in a knife that is smaller than the modern 4-layer Explorer. It's the smallest and most popular, with just two layers. Definitely the smallest knife with a magnifier. The Scientist model has been retired since the mid to late 1990s, and has practically legendary status.
CONDITION NOTE: This is a new knife in original packaging. We were probably the first to touch the knife, when we took photos. The box itself shows almost no shopwear, but the product literature has some brown spots (probably from the knife oil). This is a late-1980s knife with a grooved corkscrew.
For a while during that period, Victorinox offered many models in white and blue, as well as the more traditional red and black. We have never seen anything but red Scientists in airport confiscations, but were were lucky to get a couple in non-standard colors from a closed store in Asia. The Victorinox Scientist knife is 91mm (3½") long, about 26mm (1") wide, and 15mm (0.58) thick.
It weighs about 63 grams (2.2 oz), and contains t. Combo Can/Bottle Opener with Screwdriver Tip. The box nearly always does fine, but there is some risk it will be crushed in transit.
