Type Swiss Solider's Knife with grilon scales, Type 1951, Variant 3. Picture 3 of the book "The Knife" of Victorinox, the fourth knife from up in left column was the Variant 2, the Variant 3 was only produced by Wenger and is not listed in the book of Victorinox. Rarity Scales of red grilon. Only Wenger produced the Variant 3, from 1957 until 1964. The scales were made from grilon, a resistant plastic, and were fixed by holders on the liners, so two rivets were hidden.

It was the last development of the Type 1890, in 1962 came the Type 1961 with Alox scales. The Swiss Solider's Knife. Given to every solider of the Swiss Army since 1890 until now, was produced nearly in same version until 1964, first with scales of ebony in black colour, later (1901) with such from fibre, a synthetic material also containing wood. Beginning with 1962, the type 1961 with aluminium scales began to write it's successful story.

Picture 3 shows the types from 1890 until 2008. What we know today as "Swiss Army Knife" is the version for officers and civil persons. This knife here is a genuine Swiss Solider's Knife, used in the Swiss Army, and a beautiful piece of history.

Used soon the brand Coutellerie Suisse and began around 1900 to produce Solider's Knives for the Swiss Army. For many years, until 2008, Wenger was at eye level with Victorinox as supplier for the army. In 2005, due to sales decrease because of the laws in air traffic after 9/11, the company came in economic troubles and was bought by Victorinox. The factory is working still today, but Victorinox decided not to use the brand anymore after 2013. Outside of Europe USD 24, Europe USD 19, Switzerland USD 11.
