Type Swiss Soldier's Knife with grilon scales, Type 1951, Year 1957 Rarity Scales of red grilon Only Wenger produced the Variant 3, from 1957 until 1964. The scales were made from grilon, a resistant plastic, and were fixed by holders on the liners, so two rivets were hidden. The Swiss Soldier's Knife Given to every soldier of the Swiss Army since 1890 until now, was produced nearly in same version until 1964, first with scales of ebony in black colour, later (1901) with such from fibre, a synthetic material also containing wood. Beginning with 1962, the type 1961 with aluminium scales began to write it's successful story.
What we know today as "Swiss Army Knife" is the version for officers and civil persons. This knife here is a genuine Swiss Solider's Knife, used in the Swiss Army, and a beautiful piece of history.
Used soon the brand Coutellerie Suisse and began around 1900 to produce Soldier's Knives for the Swiss Army. For many years, until 2008, Wenger was at eye level with Victorinox as supplier for the army. In 2005, due to sales decrease because of the laws in air traffic after 9/11, the company came in economic troubles and was bought by Victorinox. The factory is working still today, but Victorinox decided not to use the brand anymore after 2013.
